Pruning

To keep your plants in nice shape, pruning at the right time is essential. Yew is an easy plant that keeps its shape well and even re-sprouts on old branches.

Watering

Newly planted yews need plenty of water. Plants that have been standing for some time are good drought tolerant and only need extra water in dry periods. Too much watering gives rise to root rot and should be avoided.

Nutrition

A well-balanced fertiliser can promote yew growth and health. Spring fertilisation in March gives the plant a good start. Using coated fertilisers is the most sustainable as they do not flush out.

Pests and diseases

Yew can be affected by various pests and diseases and correct diagnosis is therefore essential for proper plant protection treatment. Wherever possible, biological agents are preferred in gardens.
